crystal reports - ODBC connection limit in WinXP not in Win2K? -

We run a one-night process that uses crystal reports every night (~ 8000) It actually has about 14 different reports which run once for each of our customers Report 'Data source is an ODBC connection (through Control Panel) and connected to an Oracle 10G instance on our network is.

Our current production machine runs Windows 2000 Professional and we recently purchased a new machine, change it with the intention of running under Windows Server 2008. While preparing to make the switch, we saw that the test running on our local development machines runs fine with Windows XP only until the 950-1100 report is generated. The number varies, but once the work is stopped, no connection can be made to the machine unless you wait for 30 minutes, restart the machine, or run from someone else's machine. Once stopped working once, we are unable to connect to the Oracle server using other applications, such as Todd, waiting for that machine or restarting the machine. Today we decided that we will only play it on the new machine, if it was an incompatibility with our development environment, but the new machine was in the exact same problem. We have tried to see the settings of the ODBC connection and every screen is exactly the same. We are definitely fixing the versions of all the matching matching products of the software.

A timeout error returned from the crystal error: database connector error . When we try to restart the application, we come up with an error immediately:

Unchecked exception: System.Data.Odbc.OdbcException: ERROR [HY000] [Oracle] [ODBC ] [Ora] ORA-12535: TNS: Operation timed out ERROR [IM006] [Microsoft] [ODBC driver manager] Driver's SQLXnet attack failed [HYATAT] [Oracle] [ODBC] [ORA] ORA-12535: TNS: Operation timed out

We completely go Caught on search terms to target, but we think that something is to generate a number of reports.

Can anyone help with this issue?

ORA-12535 A network or firewall problem period

There is nothing to check in the application side, everything to check on behalf of the network - is there any firewall in a play - does any network address translation play? - The correct port has been opened in the firewall - Oracle uses random return ports (by default Oracle uses 2 TCP / IP ports, previously fixed, and configured in tnsnames.ora If you have a problem on your site then you have to fix it) - You should know which port is actually used, you need to run NetStat-R is.

  • Perhaps you should consider using a sniper to identify further problems.

My experience is that, apart from stubborn networks and / or firewall administrators, the problem can always be solved. I have posted several common ways to solve this method many times, and I am aware that most current posters do not try to search for archives on Google here. Still I'm not going to post them again. They are easy to meet, and they are also documented in the net administrator manual. Small numbers of people who answer the questions should be rewarded with laziness. If this will make this platform extinct, then it should be so. Sybrand Bakker Senior Oracle DBA
