language agnostic - Resource(s) for learning bitwise operation? -

I was asked a question recently, "you use multiplier operator without any loop How do I multiply without statements or a clear extra " and realized that I was not familiar with bitwise operation at all.

Obviously, but I want something from a newbie side with more explanation. Here it is but I am still not at the level of understanding it.
